PPDA Trains Municipality Leaders in Public Procurement

Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Assets Authority (PPDA) has inducted Municipality Mayors, Division Mayors, Division Chairpersons, and Speakers in Public Procurement processes .This is under the Uganda Support to Municipal Infrastructure Development (USMID) Program in the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development.
Speaking at the opening of the training at Colline Hotel Mukono, Mr. Moses Ojambo, the Ag.Executive Director PPDA noted that the training targets the political leaders in the municipalities due to their critical role in the approval of council and municipal work plans and procurement plans.
PPDA is one of the implementing partners for the USMID Program and the meeting provides a great opportunity for PPDA to interact with the municipal and divisional politicians who are key in monitoring procurement works in their respective areas.
Low budget absorption, knowledge gaps amongst stakeholders, poor contract management, and conflict of interest among others are the common challenges affecting public procurement in local governments and municipalities.
