MONITORING PERFORMANCE OF PUBLIC PROJECTS

The Acting Executive Director of the Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Assets Authority (PPDA), Mr. Benson Turamye, has challenged accounting officers to ensure timely execution and completion of public projects so as to facilitate service delivery to their respective communities.

This was revealed during the performance Monitoring exercise for the Procuring and Disposing Entities (PDEs) under the PPDA Mbarara regional office.

PPDA established Mbarara Regional Office in Financial Year 2015/16 and this is the third year running since the Region was set up. The  Office operates in 39 Entities the Kigezi, Ankole and Tooro regions distributed as follows:

  • –24 Districts,
  • 10 Municipalities,
  • 3 Regional Referral Hospitals and
  • 2 Public Universities.

The key reasons for establishing the Regional offices was to bring services nearer to the people. The Authority mandated to do the following;

  1. Ensure the application of fair, competitive, transparent, non-discriminatory and value for money public procurement and disposal standards and practices;
  2. Advise Government, local governments and other procuring and disposing entities on the procurement and disposal policies, systems and practices and where necessary, on their harmonization;
  3. Set standards for the public procurement and disposal systems in Uganda;
  4. Monitor compliance of procuring and disposing entities; and
  5. Build procurement and disposal capacity in Uganda.
