eGP is an initiative of government to leverage ICT to promote efficiency, transparency and accountability in public procurement. EGovernment Procurement system (eGP) will be a web-based system that will support the full public procurement lifecycle. It will replace the current manual process of procurement used within public institutions (ministries, departments, agencies and local governments). This means that public institutions will have to conduct all their procurement using this on-line system right from posting of bid notices, to uploading bid/tender documents and finally making payments to suppliers. At the same time, the private sector (for example suppliers / bidders) will also be required to post their responses through this on-line system.
All the 10 pilot entities for eGP have been trained on system demonstration, requirements discussion, development of the training approach and meeting of the data centre team among others have been introduced to the pilot entities.
According to the Ag.Executive Director PPDA, Mr. Benson Turamye, eGP is to be piloted in Ten (10) selected Procuring and Disposing Entities (PDEs) ;these include;
 Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development
 Ministry of Water and Environment
 Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA)
 Kampala Capital City Authority(KCCA)
 Civil Aviation Authority(CAA)
 National Information Technology Authority of Uganda (NITA-U).
 Public procurement and Disposal of public Assets Authority(PPDA)
 National Social Security Fund(NSSF)
 Jinja District Local Government
 Mpigi District Local Government
